Russian diesel will not be shipped through Latvia
The US easing of sanctions on Russian diesel trade changes nothing in Latvia. The State Revenue Service confirms that such cargoes may not be moved through Latvian ports.

Russian diesel still cannot be shipped through Latvian ports, even though the United States has decided to ease sanctions on trade in this fuel. The State Revenue Service, the Latvian authority that also oversees customs and compliance with sanctions, confirmed this to Latvian Television. The US decision therefore does not change how Latvian ports operate or what fuel transit is allowed.
What changed on the US side
An agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin provides for additional supplies of Russian diesel to reach the global market. To make that possible, the US is easing the sanctions that restricted trade in the product.
What it means for Latvia
Despite the American move, cargoes of Russian diesel are still not permitted to pass through Latvian ports. The source mentions no other changes to Latvian rules, and the State Revenue Service confirmed that the US decision does not affect this restriction.
Latvia thus keeps its existing approach: even if more Russian diesel reaches the world market, its route will not run through Latvian ports.
