Russian drone strike on warehouse near Kyiv kills at least 27

A Russian drone struck a warehouse in the village of Myla, in the Bucha district on the outskirts of Kyiv, shortly after 8pm local time on Friday. Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said on Telegram that the strike killed at least 27 people and wounded 42 others.

The attack sparked a major fire accompanied by explosions. More than 380 people were being evacuated from the affected area, including children, with over 200 already moved to safety by Saturday.

Investigation into storage conditions

Following the strike, the prosecutor's office opened an investigation into possible negligence regarding the storage of explosive materials at the site. Investigators are examining whether the unnamed company operating the facility held the required permits and complied with legal standards.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky expressed regret that lessons had not been learned from a similar incident in July, when a strike on a munitions depot in Vyshneve, also near Kyiv, killed people after an investigation found the state-owned operator had failed to meet safety standards despite the depot's proximity to residential buildings.

"In the fifth year of the full-scale invasion, making the same mistakes over and over is criminal negligence," Koretsky wrote on Telegram, adding that everyone responsible must face severe punishment to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Both Russia and Ukraine have escalated long-range strikes in recent months, increasingly targeting civilian infrastructure such as logistics warehouses and oil and port facilities, driving up civilian casualties.
