Russian drones hit gas station and passenger train just kilometers from Poland's border
Russian forces struck a fuel station and a passenger train near the Yahodyn crossing, only a few kilometers from Poland's border. Ukraine's foreign minister said Russian strikes are now hitting directly at the EU and NATO's doorstep.
Russian military drones struck a gas station and a passenger train overnight near the Yahodyn border crossing, a key road link between Ukraine and Poland located just kilometers from EU and NATO territory.
A large fire broke out at the fuel station, based on eyewitness photos and video circulated by Ukrainian media outlets. The blaze spread to nearby parked trucks, and two drivers were injured. A supermarket building in the area also sustained damage.
In a separate strike, Russian forces hit the locomotive of a passenger train roughly two kilometers from the Polish border. Ukrainian Railways said the crew had received advance warning of a possible attack, which helped prevent casualties.
Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, head of Ukrainian Railways, said Russian forces have been relentlessly targeting rail infrastructure — depots, stations, and rolling stock — for two consecutive days. The attacks have thrown train schedules nationwide into disarray: one route is now running over 18 hours behind, several others are delayed nine to ten hours, and many more are running two to six hours late.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha responded to the strikes near the Polish border by describing them as Putin's terror knocking directly on the doors of the EU and NATO. He called on European nations to deploy the full weight of their sanctions against Moscow's government, including a complete trade embargo and a total ban on Russian citizens entering their countries.
For its part, Russia's Defense Ministry said the strikes in western Ukraine targeted rail infrastructure it claims supports the transport of military cargo arriving from European countries.
