Russian drone strike damages schools, hospitals and gas network in Konotop
A massive Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian city of Konotop damaged education and healthcare facilities, homes, a railway and the gas distribution network, leaving much of the city without gas.
The city of Konotop in Ukraine's Sumy region was hit overnight by a massive Russian drone attack that damaged several social and critical infrastructure facilities, according to Konotop mayor Artem Semenikhin.
According to the mayor, the strike damaged both educational and healthcare institutions. A kindergarten building was hit, along with the building of School No. 11. Several medical facilities also sustained damage.
Homes and infrastructure also hit
The mayor said many private residential homes were damaged in the attack. Railway infrastructure in the city was also affected.
The gas supply system suffered particularly severe damage — the destruction of the gas distribution network left a significant part of Konotop without gas supply. In addition, numerous power lines were cut, leaving parts of the city without electricity.
There is no information yet on casualties or injuries from the attack. Ukrainian authorities continue to assess the damage and are working to restore the affected infrastructure.
