Three people were killed on the evening of 11 October when a Russian strike drone hit Ivano-Frankivsk, a city in western Ukraine. The attack is part of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, and it shows that western regions of the country remain under threat.
Svitlana Onyshchuk, head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Military Administration, first reported that two people had been killed and one injured in the drone attack. She later added that the injured person had died in hospital, raising the death toll to three.
Strike inside the city
Ruslan Martsinkiv, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, said the strike occurred directly within the city. He confirmed that two people had died and one had been hurt, and that civilian infrastructure was also damaged.
According to the officials, one building was damaged in the attack. Information about other possible damage is still being clarified.
Warning before the attack
Ukraine's Air Force had earlier reported that a jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle was heading towards Ivano-Frankivsk. The mayor later published a photo from the site of the attack.
