Russian strike destroys animal shelter in Odesa region
A Russian overnight attack on the Odesa region set an animal shelter housing hundreds of dogs and cats ablaze; the number of casualties remains unknown.
Russia launched a fresh attack on Ukrainian territory overnight into Tuesday, this time damaging an animal shelter in the Odesa region, according to the outlet "ua.news".
An air raid alert had already been declared in Odesa overnight into Sunday due to a Russian attack drone strike. Shortly after midnight, local outlet "Dumskaya" reported a possible hit on one of the region's dog shelters, noting that initial information pointed to exactly such a target.
Video later circulated on social media showing a large fire that broke out following the strike. Footage was also shared by a shelter volunteer, seen in the clip watching the burning site. The shelter, home to around 150 dogs and 14 cats, was full of animals at the time of the attack.
It remains unclear how many people or animals were harmed, and the full extent of the damage has not yet been specified.

The previous day, September 28, two people were injured in the Kherson region as a result of Russian aggression. In the Kyiv region, a drone strike caused a fire in residential buildings, from which two people were rescued. In Kyiv itself, drone debris sparked a fire in a five-story building. An overnight attack on Kyiv also damaged an educational institution.
