Russian guided bomb strike hits school and residential area in Sumy, killing two

Russian forces carried out a daytime strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy using four guided aerial bombs (KABs), hitting civilian infrastructure, according to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, who reported the attack on Telegram. Local outlets confirmed the details.

Hryhorov said two people were killed in the city's private housing sector — they were in their homes at the time of the strike. One of the bombs struck a school building during class hours, but students had already taken shelter and were not physically harmed.

Aftermath and casualties

Six people sought medical assistance following the attack, including three children. Local media reported that around 40 students were in the school's shelter at the moment of impact; they were later evacuated from the building.

Photographs released after the strike show the school sustained significant damage, with collapsed walls, damaged facade cladding, and blown-out windows.

The strike is part of continuing Russian attacks on civilian and educational infrastructure across cities and villages in the Sumy region.
