Ukraine's top sanctions official has revealed that a Russian Iskander missile launched at Kyiv Oblast on July 10 contained over 140 foreign-made components. Of those, 62 were manufactured in the United States. The majority of the components were produced recently.

The disclosure highlights the ongoing challenge of enforcing sanctions against Russia, as Western-made parts continue to appear in Russian weaponry. Ukrainian authorities stress the need to close this gap to limit Russia's ability to produce advanced missiles.

Experts note that the presence of foreign components in Russian missiles is not new, but the large share of American parts in this particular case raises questions about export control effectiveness. Ukraine's sanctions bureau says it will continue investigating and urge international partners to tighten oversight of potential sanctions violations.

The Iskander is a Russian short-range ballistic missile system widely used by Russia in its war against Ukraine.
