Russia's Kaliningrad region, an exclave on the Baltic Sea coast between Poland and Lithuania, lost electricity around midnight on 30 October. Several parts of the city of Kaliningrad and other settlements in the region were left without power, and residents also faced disruptions to mobile internet.

The information was published by the source Exilenova+ and relayed by the Ukrainian outlet Ukrainska Pravda.

Affected places

According to the reports, several districts of Kaliningrad were without electricity, as were neighbouring towns: Gurievsk, Svetlogorsk, Pionersky, Yantarny, Gvardeysk and Bagrationovsk. Other settlements in the region also lost power. The source does not say how many people were affected.

Cause unknown

Local authorities have so far not named the reasons for the blackout and have not officially confirmed the incident. It is not known when electricity supply and mobile internet might be fully restored.

Because there is no official explanation, nothing is yet known for certain about a possible accident or other causes. The reports rely on information published by the source and have not been officially confirmed.
