Large fire breaks out at industrial site in Russia’s Lipetsk region after air raid alerts
A major fire erupted at an industrial facility in Russia’s Lipetsk region following overnight air raid alerts, covering about 2,500 square meters. No casualties were reported, and the cause remains unknown, with independent sources suggesting the blaze is between a power plant and a steel mill.
A large fire broke out at an industrial site in Lipetsk, Russia, overnight on July 21. Governor Igor Artamonov said the fire started in an open area on Peredelcheskaya Street, covering approximately 2,500 square meters (26,910 square feet). There were no casualties, and the cause has not been determined.
The Russian business daily Kommersant reported that air raid alerts were declared twice overnight in the Lipetsk region, which remains under a warning about the threat of Ukrainian drone attacks.
The independent Telegram channel Astra, citing photos and videos from eyewitnesses, reported that the fire broke out in the area between the local combined heat and power plant and the Novolipetsk Steel plant (NLMK), though what exactly is burning remains unclear. The Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+ also reported a fire near the power plant.
In the Vladimir region, a drone struck an apartment in a multi-story residential building, Governor Alexander Avdeyev said. There were no casualties — the residents were not home at the time. The resulting fire was extinguished.
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that overnight on July 21, Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 209 Ukrainian drones over 10 Russian regions, occupied Crimea, and the Sea of Azov and Black Sea.
