Russia launches 138-drone overnight attack on Ukraine, killing mother and two children in Kyiv region
Russia struck Ukraine overnight with 138 drones, with the heaviest toll in the Kyiv region, where a mother and her two children were killed. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted more than two-thirds of the drones.
Russia carried out a large-scale drone attack against Ukrainian territory overnight into Sunday, deploying 138 unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukraine's Air Force reported that the strike involved various drone types, including "Shahed" and "Gerbera" models, with nearly half classified as jet-powered drones.
Most drones intercepted
Ukrainian air defense systems managed to shoot down or otherwise neutralize 101 of the 138 drones launched. The remaining drones either reached their targets or crashed within Ukrainian territory, causing damage. According to the Air Force, direct strikes were recorded in 17 locations, while debris from intercepted drones fell in five additional locations.
Kyiv region hit hardest
While the effects of the attack were reported across several Ukrainian regions, the Kyiv region suffered the most severe consequences. In the Fastiv district, a strike killed a mother along with her two young children — a girl and a boy. Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv regional military administration, confirmed the deaths, stating that three people died as a result of the enemy's attack.
The strike also caused significant material damage to residential areas. Several private homes and at least one vehicle were damaged. A fire broke out in one of the affected houses following the impact, causing further damage. Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the losses and any additional casualties in the region.
