In the Russian-occupied city of Berdiansk in southern Ukraine, local occupation authorities have handed down a lengthy prison sentence to a female pensioner over her financial support for the Ukrainian military.

Harsh punishment for a small sum

The woman was convicted for transferring 1,500 hryvnias, roughly 29 euros, to Ukraine's Armed Forces. For this act, occupation authorities sentenced her to 14 years in prison.

The case illustrates how severely even small financial contributions to the Ukrainian armed forces are punished in Russian-controlled territories. Such practices reflect the occupation administration's efforts to suppress any ties residents maintain with the Ukrainian state and its military, regardless of the scale of support involved.
