Russian citizen fined for attempting to smuggle cash in cosmetics bag and underwear
A 63-year-old Russian citizen was fined €240 after trying to take euros and Swedish kronor out of Estonia through the Narva border checkpoint, hiding the money in a cosmetics bag and underwear. She was returned to Estonia with the cash.
On Saturday, June 27, a 63-year-old Russian citizen arrived at the Narva border checkpoint for exit control. It was her first border crossing in a year. Before the customs check, she stated she had nothing to declare. When asked about euros, she replied that she might have some.
During inspection, customs officers found €30 and 250 Swedish kronor in her cosmetics bag. When asked if anything was hidden under her clothes, she denied it, but officers later discovered an additional €900 and 500 Swedish kronor hidden in her underwear.
For violating sanctions, she was fined €240 and returned to Estonia along with the cash.
