Russian missile strike on civilian ship in Black Sea kills six sailors
Russia launched a missile attack on the civilian vessel “Golden Leo” near Odesa, killing six sailors and leaving four missing.
The Russian military carried out a missile strike on Sunday, March 24, against the civilian ship “Golden Leo,” which was sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau near Odesa. The attack killed six sailors, with four others reported missing, according to Ukraine’s Minister of Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport, Mykola Kalashnyk.
A total of 18 people were on board: 17 Syrian and Indian citizens, along with a Ukrainian pilot. Eight crew members were rescued, two of whom were injured. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
Ukraine’s Navy reported that the attack involved three cruise missiles. The vessel is owned by a Turkish company and had departed from a Ukrainian port after loading corn.
