Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, with missiles and drones overnight into Wednesday, 14 October. At least three people were killed and 22 were injured. The strikes hit both residential buildings and the city's energy facilities, and the wider overnight attacks on energy infrastructure left more than 600,000 people across Ukraine without electricity.

Casualties in Kyiv districts

In the Desnianskyi district, a hit on a nine-storey apartment block killed two people and injured 21, among them a child. Rescuers pulled 16 residents out of the building, while firefighters battled a fire covering 400 square metres. Sixteen of the injured were taken to hospital, four of them in serious condition.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a non-residential building was struck, killing one person and injuring another. Psychologists from the emergency services helped 110 people at the affected locations.

Strikes on energy infrastructure

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine confirmed that a ballistic missile hit Kyiv's CHP-4, a combined heat and power plant. He said Ukraine had received no warning from its partners before the incoming missiles were detected.

Rescue crews continued to search through the wreckage of damaged buildings in the capital on Wednesday.
