Russian strike on Sumy apartment block kills at least two

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said a Russian aerial bomb struck an apartment building in the eastern city of Sumy late on Friday, killing at least two people. Ukraine's state emergency service released an image showing a large hole torn through three floors of the building.
Other developments
On Thursday morning, a Russian drone attack injured five people, including three children, in the Kyiv region surrounding the Ukrainian capital.
Separately, the European Union on Friday sharply criticized Russia's tightly controlled parliamentary elections, accusing the Kremlin of using repression to deny voters "a genuine choice about the future of their country."
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron said he had ordered measures to protect France's critical infrastructure and defense industry sites from what he described as Russian hybrid attacks.
The strike on Sumy adds to a string of recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian population centers, as the war continues with near-daily reports of casualties among civilians in cities and regions across the country.
