Injured toll from Kharkiv strike climbs to 23 as rescuers keep searching rubble

A Russian strike hit a high-rise residential building in Kharkiv's Saltivskyi district on the morning of 9 August, killing two men and injuring dozens of residents. Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov reported that the number of injured has now reached 23.

The two men killed were 50 and 66 years old. Five of the injured remain hospitalized, including one woman whose condition is described as serious. A five-year-old boy is also among those hurt.

Extent of the damage

The strike destroyed the building's sixth through ninth floors. Local authorities said earlier that 11 people suffered blast injuries, two were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning, and eight others, including the child, experienced acute stress reactions.

Rescue operation continues

Emergency crews remain at the site, clearing debris from the collapsed sections of the building to check whether anyone is still trapped beneath the rubble. The search and rescue effort had not concluded as of the latest update.
