Six injured in blast near Kyiv after Russian strike, prosecutors probe possible negligence
A Russian strike triggered a large fire and detonation at a facility in Bucha district, Kyiv region, injuring six people and forcing the evacuation of 165 residents. Prosecutors have opened an investigation into possible official negligence.
On the evening of August 28, a Russian drone strike hit or crashed near a facility in the village of Myla, Bucha district, Kyiv region, triggering a large-scale fire and subsequent detonation, according to the Prosecutor General's Office and Kyiv Regional Administration head Tymur Tkachenko.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 20:10, when an unmanned aerial vehicle of a type still being determined fell on or struck the facility's territory. By 00:16, the number of injured had risen to six. A total of 165 people were evacuated from the area.
One private house in the district was completely destroyed, and seven others were damaged. A fire truck and a nursing home for elderly people also sustained damage. Police, rescuers and explosive ordnance specialists are working at the scene, and evacuation of residents remains possible if needed.
Law enforcement has opened a pre-trial investigation into possible official negligence under Article 367 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. Investigators will examine whether explosive materials were stored legally at the site, whether proper permits existed, and the actions of responsible officials.
Echoes of an earlier tragedy
Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said the incident shows that the earlier tragedy in Vyshneve was not treated as a lesson. He stressed that repeating the same mistakes in the fifth year of the full-scale invasion amounts to criminal negligence, and that all responsible parties, without exception, must face severe punishment to prevent recurrence.
A similar incident took place on July 6, 2026, in Vyshneve, Kyiv region, where a Russian strike caused prolonged detonation at ammunition warehouses, killing nine people and damaging more than 280 houses.
On the night of the Bucha district blasts, traffic was closed to all vehicles on the M-06 Kyiv–Chop highway between the 15th and 32nd kilometers.
