Russian guided bombs kill two city council employees in apartment building strike in northeastern Ukraine

Russian forces struck a multistory apartment building in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy with guided aerial bombs, killing two people, according to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy regional administration.

Hryhorov said seven other people were injured in the attack, including a 13-year-old girl. Three of the injured are in serious condition.

Sumy Mayor Artem Kobzar confirmed that those killed in the strike were employees of the city council.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the bomb struck the building directly between the third and fourth floors. He called on the United States to seize the opportunity to send Russia a clear signal about justified pressure and the need to end the war. Zelensky said he expects Senator Lindsey Graham's sanctions bill to ultimately become law, with its leverage helping force Russia to choose peace.
