A Russian attack on a residential building in Zaporizhzhia, a city in south-eastern Ukraine, has killed eight people. The number of injured has risen to 16, including three children. Two of the wounded are in serious condition, and 12 people are considered missing after the strike. It is another assault on civilian buildings in Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

Casualty figures have grown

The latest figures were published on Telegram by a regional official. Earlier, Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, reported on Telegram that seven people had been killed, three of them children, and that ten were injured. The toll has therefore increased since the first reports.

Rescue operation

Search and rescue operations are continuing at the site of the attack. People are still trapped under the rubble, so the number of victims may yet change. The source does not specify what type of weapon hit the building.

Attack on railway

Russian forces also attacked railway infrastructure in the Zhytomyr region in north-western Ukraine. One person was injured in those attacks. The source gives no further details about damage to the railway.

Officials continue to update the data on casualties and missing people while the search through the debris goes on.
