Russian forces attacked Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, overnight on October 22 using drones and ballistic missiles. According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service, one person was killed and more than 20 were injured. The attack came only hours after U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff travelled to St. Petersburg to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks on ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Damage across Kyiv districts

In the Dniprovskyi district, homes and vehicles were damaged and both residential and non-residential buildings caught fire. One person died there and five more, including a child, were hurt. Transportation infrastructure was damaged in the Darnytskyi district.

Two people were injured in the Obolonskyi district. In the Pecherskyi district, eight people were hurt, three of them children. Six people were injured in the Holosiivskyi district. The strikes also damaged non-residential buildings, ambulances and a monastery.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said part of the metro system's infrastructure at the South Bridge was damaged. He gave no further details.

Moscow's account and the Odesa region

Russia's Defense Ministry said the Kyiv strikes hit Ukrainian military-industrial facilities involved in producing and storing long- and medium-range cruise missiles and drones, as well as transportation infrastructure sites.

In the Odesa region, Russian forces struck a food production facility, Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne reported. A fire destroyed the administrative building, and nobody was injured. The Russian ministry said its targets there were port infrastructure facilities and vessels used in the interests of Ukraine's Armed Forces.

Russia attacks Kyiv with drones and various types of missiles every day.
