Risk to civilians near the NATO frontier
The strike on the passenger train raises the risk to civilian travel in a region close to the external border of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It comes just days after Warsaw warned that Moscow could also strike border crossing points between Poland and Ukraine. The intensifying drone activity in western Ukraine is being read as a further sign that the war's reach could extend closer to NATO territory.

Separately, Ukrainian drone specialists have reportedly surfaced fighting against Russian forces far from home, in Mali and Sudan.
