Moldovan citizen among those injured in Russian strike on "Starokozache" crossing
A Russian drone strike on the Ukraine-Moldova border crossing "Starokozache" killed two people and injured several others, including a Moldovan citizen. Moldova condemned the attack and is checking reports of damage to its companies' vehicles.
Overnight into September 9, Russian drones struck border infrastructure near Moldova, including the Ukrainian checkpoint "Starokozache." The attack killed two people and injured two others.
Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said one of the injured is a citizen of their country. The information was reported by the Ukrainian outlet "Yevropeiska Pravda," citing Moldovan broadcaster TV8.
Both people killed in the strike were Ukrainian citizens. There is currently no confirmed information about other Moldovan citizens among the injured.
Injured man continued his journey to Chisinau
According to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, the injured Moldovan citizen refused hospitalization and continued his trip by car to Chisinau.
The ministry is also verifying reports that Moldovan vehicles were damaged or destroyed in the attack. Earlier, a photo circulated online showing a damaged bus reportedly bearing the name of a Moldovan company. The ministry said it remains in contact with Ukrainian authorities and will provide confirmed data.
Condemnation from Moldova
Moldova's Foreign Ministry condemned Russia's latest attacks on Ukraine, including the strike on the "Starokozache" checkpoint. Moldovan President Maia Sandu also condemned the strike as well as a violation of her country's airspace by a "Geran"-type drone.
