Rzeszów and Lublin Airports in Poland Halt Operations for Third Straight Day Amid Russian Strikes on Ukraine

On the morning of September 18, airports in Rzeszów and Lublin, Poland, suspended flight operations in response to Russian attacks on Ukraine. The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) confirmed the disruption, according to the outlet "European Pravda".

As Russia launched attacks on Ukraine, the Polish Armed Forces scrambled fighter jets into the air, while the two airports halted air traffic. PANSA announced the suspension on the platform X.

Drone near the border

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had earlier said that on September 17, a Russian attack drone crashed near the Polish border in the Volyn region. A spokesman for the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, said a drone had most likely crashed or been shot down about 4 kilometers from the Polish-Ukrainian border. That same day, reports also emerged that the Lublin and Rzeszów airports had suspended operations.

Third consecutive day of disruptions

This is not an isolated incident. On September 16, fighter jets were also scrambled in Poland's border regions and an air raid alert was issued due to a Russian drone attack on Ukrainian territory. On that occasion too, the Rzeszów and Lublin airports halted operations. This marks the third straight day these airports have been forced to suspend activity for security reasons, underscoring persistent tension in the border area between Poland and Ukraine.
