At least eight killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine as Poland investigates airspace violation

Russia launched a massive overnight attack on Ukraine, firing 74 missiles and 284 drones, with casualties concentrated in the Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions. At least eight people were killed and dozens injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the strikes "Russian terror" and stressed the critical shortage of air defence missiles from partners, saying protection against Russian missile threats is paramount.
Neighbouring Poland is investigating an airspace violation and explosion on its territory. An unidentified object flying westward was detected in Polish airspace and crashed near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia, about 80 km from the Ukrainian border. Local police discovered debris and a crater in a field roughly 2 km from the nearest buildings. Air raid sirens also sounded in Lublin. The incident occurred hours after Zelenskyy met Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Lublin; Tusk is traveling to the impact site.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile crossed into Poland, violating NATO airspace. Polish authorities have not yet formally identified the object. Sybiha emphasized that strengthening Ukraine's air defence is urgent and protects the entire Euro-Atlantic community, urging Poland and Ukraine to set aside disagreements in the face of their common enemy.
Estonian President Alar Karis warned that Russia's war "continues to endanger lives far beyond Ukraine," expressing solidarity with Ukraine and Poland. Reuters initially reported 13 killed but later corrected the figure to eight.
