Two injured as Russian strike damages apartment block in Boryspil
A Russian night attack on Boryspil set fire to the roof and an apartment of a nine-storey residential building, injuring two people. An air raid alert had been declared in Kyiv shortly before.
In the early hours of Saturday, September 5, a Russian attack caused a fire on the roof and in one apartment of a nine-storey residential building in Boryspil, near Kyiv. The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported the incident on social media.
According to the administration's initial statement, the strike damaged the building's roof and top floor. Officials first said there were no casualties, and rescuers along with other emergency services were deployed to the site.
Two women hospitalised
Tkachenko later updated the information, saying that two people were in fact injured in the attack. Two women suffering acoustic-barotrauma and closed chest injuries were hospitalised at a local hospital, he said. According to him, efforts to eliminate the consequences of the strike and document the damage to the residential building were still ongoing.
Background
According to sources cited by Ukrainska Pravda, Ukraine's defence forces had been ordered to observe a ceasefire regime along the front line from midnight on September 5 until midnight on September 8. Nevertheless, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv at midnight on September 5. The Air Force reported jet-powered drones over the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, and air defence systems were heard operating in Kyiv after midnight.
