Ruslan Puptaiev, a Russian national who fled persecution in his home country and built a new life in Ukraine under a false identity, now faces deportation after authorities uncovered his true identity.

Puptaiev had been assisting the Ukrainian armed forces, providing support in military operations. After his real identity was discovered, Ukrainian authorities detained him and initiated deportation proceedings.

However, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has issued an interim measure, prohibiting Ukraine from deporting Puptaiev back to Russia while the court reviews his case. This decision provides him with temporary protection against possible persecution he might face upon return to Russia.

Puptaiev claims he is at risk in Russia due to his political views, and his asylum application in Ukraine has not yet been processed. The situation is complicated because, on one hand, he helped Ukraine, but on the other, he lived under false pretenses, which violates Ukrainian law.
