Twenty journalists from occupied Crimea are currently held in Russian prisons because of their professional activity. The figure was announced at a press conference in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, by the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, an activist organisation that monitors the situation of the Crimean Tatar people.

According to the centre, 13 of the imprisoned journalists belong to the Crimean Tatar people. Crimean Tatars are an indigenous people of Crimea, so the figures indicate that they make up most of the journalists named.

The source does not give the names of individual journalists, the charges against them or any court verdicts. It also does not say when the people concerned were imprisoned. The information rests on the activists' statement at the press conference, and no other sources are cited.
