Kristīne Opolais and Plácido Domingo Rehearse Together in Riga
Opera singer Kristīne Opolais and legendary tenor Plácido Domingo held a rehearsal at the Riga Congress Centre on Tuesday ahead of their July 29 concert at the Dzintari Concert Hall.
Latvian soprano Kristīne Opolais, legendary tenor Plácido Domingo, and American tenor Michael Fabiano rehearsed together on Tuesday at the Riga Congress Centre. They are preparing for a concert scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, at the Dzintari Concert Hall in Jurmala. Organizers say this will be a special opportunity for Latvian audiences to hear Opolais perform at home alongside two tenors from different generations.
This marks Domingo's first-ever performance in Latvia. With over 150 roles in his career, he promises a diverse program featuring opera arias, Spanish and Italian songs, as well as duets and trios with Opolais and Fabiano. The concert will also include a choir and the Festival Orchestra conducted by Valentin Uryupin. The organizers have hinted at several surprises.
Domingo previously expressed a long-held desire to sing duets with Opolais in Latvia, an idea conceived a decade ago. Although he has collaborated with many Latvian artists abroad—such as in 2016 at Milan's La Scala with director Alvis Hermanis—he has never performed in Latvia itself.
Opolais, known for her presence at leading opera houses worldwide, is described by critics as an artist unafraid to take risks. Michael Fabiano, one of today's most sought-after tenors, has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and other prestigious venues.
Domingo, a winner of multiple Grammy and Emmy awards, says he feels adrenaline and responsibility every time he steps on stage. He is ready to give his best, and the Jurmala audience will hear him live for the first time.
