Critic: Shapiro's Work in Russia Doesn't Diminish His Role in the Awakening
Theater critic Edīte Tišheizere believes that director Adolf Shapiro's continued work in Russia does not change his contribution to Latvia's Awakening, although ignorance does not excuse actions under war conditions.

Reacting to director Adolf Shapiro's removal from the "Spēlmaņu nakts" nominations, theater critic Edīte Tišheizere shared her thoughts on artists' responsibility during wartime on the program "Kultūras Rondo." She acknowledged that while some people, including herself, do not live in Russia's information environment, ignorance does not justify actions. However, she emphasized that we live in a war reality that is black and white and erases half-tones and nuances.
Tišheizere stated that Shapiro's work in Russia does not change the past or diminish his role in bringing about Latvia's Awakening. This statement highlights his significant contribution to Latvian theater and public life, providing context for his later professional choices. The critic's comment reflects broader discussions on how to evaluate artists' activities abroad, especially in Russia, given the current geopolitical situation.
