Crisis Management Centre head: Latvia's crisis readiness rated four out of ten
The head of Latvia's Crisis Management Centre, Colonel Arvis Zīle, says the country's readiness for various threats and crises currently stands at four out of ten. He notes that while response plans exist and readiness is improving, much work remains.
The head of Latvia's Crisis Management Centre, Colonel Arvis Zīle, said on Latvian Radio's programme "Krustpunktā" that the country's current readiness to face various threats and crises can be rated at four out of ten.
According to Zīle, the centre has for more than a year been coordinating cooperation between the military and civilian sides in the event of threats, effectively overseeing what is known as comprehensive state defence in Latvia. The centre's annual budget is set at just under two million euros.
Plans already in place
Zīle noted that action plans for crisis situations have already been drawn up, and the country's readiness is gradually improving. However, he said the current level is still not sufficient, and there is a great deal of work ahead to reach the desired standard of preparedness.
