Breast cancer remains widespread in Latvia — mobile mammography reaches rural women

Breast cancer continues to be the most frequently diagnosed malignant tumour in Latvia and remains the leading cause of cancer-related death among women in the country. Early detection significantly improves the chances of successful treatment, which makes regular preventive screening essential.

Bringing screening closer to patients

One way to improve access to such screening is the use of a mobile mammography unit — equipment that allows breast examinations to be carried out in areas without permanent stationary devices. This is especially important for women living in rural areas or more remote regions, where the nearest hospital can be far away and difficult to reach.
