Kulbergs Faces a Difficult Road After Record Election Result

Before elections, politicians usually predict greater success than they actually expect. When the magazine Ir asked Andris Kulbergs how many seats the United List would win in the 15th Saeima, he replied that if voters want real change in the country, a dominant mandate has to be won.

Such a mandate has now been delivered. The commentary's author writes that it is the best election result in Latvia's history. Kulbergs himself appears clearly surprised: when a television correspondent asked whether he had expected this outcome, he answered candidly that he had not.

Growing confidence

The commentary stresses, however, that Kulbergs' inner confidence is visibly rising. On Tuesday, after meeting the president, he said he now has the chance to put the household in order without political compromises.

A warning about the challenges

The headline of the commentary suggests that things will not be easy for Kulbergs. The text also uses the warning to be careful what you wish for, since it may come true, along with a reminder of the basics of politics: the hardest thing is reaching agreement with your own side.
