Kulbergs to Meet with NGOs to Discuss Their Financing
Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs will meet with non-governmental organizations to discuss funding issues, aiming for a more transparent and targeted support model.
The Prime Minister's office announced that the meeting will include not only members of the Council for Implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between NGOs and the Cabinet of Ministers but also NGO representatives from Latvia's regions to ensure a comprehensive perspective and broad representation.
Kulbergs emphasizes that NGOs are an important part of civil society, making significant contributions to identifying key issues and decision-making processes. At the same time, he stresses the need to evaluate whether the current support and funding model operates effectively and provides the greatest benefit to the country's residents.
Given limited funding and the need for responsible use of state budget resources, the Prime Minister wants to hear NGOs' views and discuss possible solutions to make funding allocation transparent, targeted, and aligned with public interests.
On Tuesday after the government meeting, Kulbergs said he had received information prepared by the State Chancellery on NGO financing, but it is incomplete. He expects clarifications by Friday.
