Kulbergs will not join any of the United List's member parties
Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs has no plans to join any of the United List’s member parties, saying the alliance’s political forces work together as a team. He will therefore remain non-partisan.
Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, who represents the political alliance “United List” (AS), does not plan to join any of the parties that make up this alliance. His communications adviser Elīna Šverna told the LETA news agency that Kulbergs sees no need for such a step. She said the political forces within the United List are united and cooperate as a team, so membership in an individual party is not required.
The United List is an alliance formed by several political forces. It includes the Latvian Green Party, the Latvian Regions Association and the Liepāja Party. Non-partisan professionals have also joined the alliance, having done so at the invitation of architect and entrepreneur Uldis Pīlēns. These groups have agreed to work together both in elections and in government.
Kulbergs became head of government after the Saeima approved the new cabinet at the end of May. There were 66 deputies in favour and 25 against. The new coalition consists of four forces: the United List, the National Alliance, New Unity and the Union of Greens and Farmers.
The task of forming the government was given to Kulbergs by President Edgars Rinkēvičs. This happened after the previous prime minister, Evika Siliņa (New Unity), had resigned. Kulbergs therefore remains in office without formal party affiliation, meaning he is not a registered member of any of the United List's constituent parties.
