PM Kulbergs seeks to reassure public: no sign of heightened threat to Latvia

Latvia's Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs has addressed the public on social media platform X, urging people to stay calm amid concerns over the security situation in Latvia and other countries on NATO's eastern flank. He acknowledged that recent international news has caused unease in society, but stressed that there is currently no information pointing to a particularly high threat level for the country.

The prime minister also commented on a risk assessment published by the Polish government's intelligence services regarding possible Russian actions in the coming months. Kulbergs explained that such an assessment does not mean a specific or inevitable attack is expected against Poland, Latvia, or any other NATO member state.

Security measures continue

The head of government said the security situation is being assessed seriously and that he remains in constant contact with the responsible services. Border guard and security services are said to be vigilant, with several operations and military exercises underway at the border. During the upcoming election period, German fighter jets will provide additional patrols of Latvia's airspace. Kulbergs also highlighted the support of NATO allies, describing it as stronger than ever before.

Rising disinformation

At the same time, the prime minister called for continued vigilance, noting that disinformation and propaganda have been increasing in connection with Russia's upcoming State Duma elections. Services continue to monitor the situation and exchange information with allied countries. Kulbergs promised that if information emerges about a real threat to Latvia, the public will be informed immediately.
