PM Kulbergs demands explanation over €147,000 granted to already-finished bridge championship

Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (AS) has demanded that the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) immediately submit documents relating to the distribution of €225,000 in state funding intended for organizing international sports events in Latvia.

The prime minister has focused particular attention on a payment of €147,366 awarded to the Latvian Bridge Federation. Kulbergs has requested an explanation for this allocation, pointing out that both bridge championships that received support had already concluded by the time the funding competition was officially announced.

Questions over the competition process

The situation raises questions about how state support could have been granted to events that took place before the formal competition procedure even began. The prime minister is seeking clarity from the ministry on how the funding decisions were made and why money was directed toward events that had already occurred.

It is not yet known what response the ministry has given or what further steps might follow in clarifying the matter.
