Culture Ministry Seeks Candidates for Latvian Art Award Jury
Latvia's Ministry of Culture is accepting nominations until 16 November for the jury of the Latvian Art of the Year Award 2027. Jury members will be appointed for one year starting 1 January 2027.

Latvia's Ministry of Culture is inviting state and municipal institutions, non-governmental organisations and legal entities working in the visual arts to nominate candidates for the jury of the Latvian Art of the Year Award 2027 by 16 November 2026. The award is the country's highest state distinction in art. It recognises the previous year's achievements in Latvia's art scene and covers the varied field of visual art through a wide range of categories.
Required documents
A nomination must include a justification, the candidate's curriculum vitae and a written statement. In it, the candidate must confirm that he or she agrees to serve on the jury and will not compete for any nomination or prize for work done in 2027.
Applications marked "Latvian Art of the Year Award jury candidates" must be sent electronically to the Ministry of Culture by 4:00 p.m. on 16 November 2026.
How the jury works
The Latvian Visual Art Council reviews the nominations, and the minister of culture gives final approval. Jury members are appointed for one year starting 1 January 2027, and each may serve two consecutive terms.
The current jury includes art historian and critic Aiga Dzalbe, curator Raivis Alksnis, artist Kristīne Krauze-Slucka, Anete Skuja, curator and researcher at the Latvian National Museum of Art, artist Vika Eksta, art historian and curator Inga Šteimane, who heads the Art Station Dubulti, and artist, curator and critic Gundega Evelone.
The jury's work in 2025–2027 is organised by the association Collective WW. More information about the jury is available at lmgb.lv, and the award regulations can be found on the Ministry of Culture's website.
