Scotland's national football team have concluded their World Cup finals campaign with one victory and two defeats, leaving question marks over manager Steve Clarke's future. The side beat Haiti 1-0 but lost to Morocco and Brazil, with defensive errors leading to early goals conceded in both losses.

Former Scotland defender Willie Miller described the performances as "below par" across all three games. He highlighted the lack of a top-class striker as a major issue and expressed uncertainty about some selection decisions. However, Miller backed Clarke, noting that he secured qualification and has fostered a sense of togetherness in the squad.

Former striker James McFadden criticised the defending, calling the errors costly. But he also pointed out that Scotland could have had two penalties and a red card in the Morocco game, factors beyond the manager and players' control.

Pat Nevin, a former teammate of Clarke at club and international level, believes the team was too open in their approach. He suggested that a five-man defence might have been more appropriate. Despite the flak, Nevin thinks Clarke will stay on, having fallen in love with the role.

Defender Stephen O'Donnell defended the campaign, highlighting the first World Cup win since 1990. He argued that expecting more than three points from a group containing two of the world's best teams is unrealistic. O'Donnell sees progression, as Scotland failed to win in their previous two tournaments.

Clarke is Scotland's longest-serving manager with 81 matches in charge. The Scottish FA has given him emphatic support, and participation in three of the past four major tournaments has boosted finances. Euro 2028 will be co-hosted by Scotland, making qualification easier. Miller believes Clarke can continue for a few more years and that the new contract was a positive step.
