The Kurzeme Regional Court in Liepāja recently heard an unusual dispute involving a debt collection company, SIA 'Gelvora Sergel', seeking to recover a debt of several thousand euros. The court dismissed the claim, leaving the debtor without an obligation to repay the old loans.

The case dates back to October 23, 2007, when an individual signed a loan agreement with SIA 'INSERVISS GROUP'. A few years later, in the summer of 2010, he took out another loan from AS 'Swedbank'. Over time, neither loan was fully repaid, and the rights to collect the debts were acquired by 'Gelvora Sergel'.

During the proceedings, it emerged that the debt recovery was not possible due to certain legal nuances. Although the source does not specify these nuances, the court's decision indicates that a creditor's power over old loans is not unlimited. This case highlights the importance of timely debt management and awareness of statute of limitations.
