Kushner tours region to push Trump's Gaza plan amid scepticism from both sides

US envoy Jared Kushner met Hamas leaders in Egypt and Israeli PM Netanyahu in an effort to advance Trump's 15-point Gaza roadmap. Both Palestinians and Israelis remain sceptical of the proposal.

US President Donald Trump's envoy Jared Kushner travelled to the Middle East this week in an attempt to move forward a 15-point roadmap proposed by Washington for the future of Gaza. During the trip, he held meetings with Hamas representatives in Egypt as well as with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The purpose of the meetings was to secure support from both sides for the plan drafted by the Trump administration to address the situation in the Gaza Strip. However, according to reports from the region, both Palestinians and Israelis have expressed doubts about whether the plan can actually be implemented.

Kushner's diplomatic mission comes as a resolution to the Gaza conflict remains one of the most difficult issues in regional politics. Talks with Hamas were held in Egypt, which has long served as a mediator between the parties involved in the conflict, while the meeting with Netanyahu took place in Israel.

It remains unclear when an agreement on the plan's next steps might be reached, or what the official response from either side will be following the talks.
