Crimean Solidarity movement shuts down amid fear of new arrests

The Crimean Solidarity movement, which supported political prisoners and their families in Russian-occupied Crimea, has ceased operations because continuing risked sending even more people to prison.

The Crimean Solidarity movement, dedicated to supporting political prisoners and their families in the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, has announced its shutdown. The decision was made due to the realization that continued operation could lead to further imprisonments.

Operating under the conditions of Russian occupation, the movement provided aid to those who became targets of political repression. However, the growing risk that the organization itself and its supporters could face persecution led to the difficult decision to cease activities.

Crimean Solidarity played a crucial role in highlighting human rights violations in occupied Crimea. Its closure is yet another indication that Russia continues to suppress any independent voice and civil society on the peninsula.
