Weather to Change Rapidly: What to Expect Before Līgo

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre forecasts that Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly cloudy, though the sun will shine through in some places. Rain is expected mainly in the eastern part of the country. Winds will be light to moderate from the west and northwest; on Wednesday afternoon they will become gusty in Vidzeme, while on Thursday they will shift to the west and southwest and gradually calm down. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +9…+14°C, while daytime highs will reach +15…+20°C; on Thursday, temperatures in central Latvia may approach +25°C.

Over the weekend, an anticyclone from the south will influence the weather, bringing more sunshine between the clouds and less precipitation compared to the first half of the week. However, rain will not be absent—some areas will see showers, and on Sunday, more widespread rain is expected, possibly with thunder. Winds will calm on Friday night and remain light through the weekend. Temperatures will not change significantly, though in some regions the maximum temperature could reach +25…+27°C.

At the beginning of next week, including the summer solstice and Līgo night, the weather will be changeable. Rain clouds will appear in various places, days will remain relatively warm, but the wind will gradually strengthen and become gusty again.
