England's Langton feared for gymnastics future after fall

English gymnast Jake Langton admitted he feared for his future in the sport after a fall from the high bar during a competition. The incident occurred as he attempted to move into a handstand position but lost his grip and fell head first onto the mat. There was a lengthy delay as Langton was taken away on a trolley and then a stretcher.

Scans showed swelling and bruising, and he was allowed to leave hospital on Saturday night. "A little bit sore and a little bit stiff but that is to be expected," he said of his condition. "I can't really complain too much."

The England team went on to secure a silver medal behind Canada. Langton received his medal later at the team hotel, where teammates and coaches gathered to applaud him. "That was incredible," he said. "Seeing all of the team-mates, coaches and getting my medal. I saw my personal coach from Birmingham. It was so nice."

With no further competition of his own, Langton was back in the arena on Sunday to support teammates in the men's all-around final. He said he will "take it easy for a couple of days and do the rehab" before returning to training. "I trust in my gymnastics capability," he said. "It was really just a freak accident."
