Before adopting, the Lapsu family completed mandatory training and an adoption assessment process, which they found very useful. It took two years from the time they were approved as adoptive parents until the girl came home. The family is grateful to the foster family where the girl lived before adoption, but also believes that legally free children should not stay in foster care for too long. Their daughter became legally free at one year old but was not adopted until age three, which meant another difficult separation for the child. The family encourages people not to be afraid to consider adoption and reminds them that support from psychologists, therapists, and social workers is available if needed. According to the parents, the adopted girl has brought much joy and new energy into the family.
