LATbio: Demand for wood pellets starts to decline

Didzis Palejs, chairman of the board of the Latvian Biomass Association "LATbio," has told the LETA news agency that demand for pellets is currently showing a downward trend.

Decline in both markets

According to Palejs, the drop in demand is being observed simultaneously in two directions — in the segment intended for export to foreign markets, as well as in Latvia's domestic consumption market. This means that both producers who supply pellets to foreign buyers and those who serve local customers are facing reduced interest.

The association's role

LATbio is an organization that represents the interests of participants in Latvia's biomass sector and regularly comments on developments in the field. As chairman of the association's board, Palejs is one of the industry representatives whose opinion is sought when assessing the state of the market.

LETA has not published additional numerical data on the scale of the demand decline or the specific time periods to which Palejs' comments refer. The reasons that might explain these changes in the pellet market have also not yet been detailed.
