Latgale Regional Television Launches New Season of 'Latgale's Dowry Chest – Rebirth'

Latgale Regional Television (LRT) is launching a new season of its program cycle 'Latgale's Dowry Chest – Rebirth II', continuing the project started previously. This year, viewers will again explore Latgale's cultural heritage, ancient traditions, and the people who preserve and pass them on to future generations. The project will produce four television programs that reflect the revival of old traditions, the people behind them, and their significance in modern society, while also explaining the historical origins of these traditions and their future prospects.

The first program is dedicated to Īdenis, a fishing village located in the Rēzekne district. It is unique as the only fishing village in Latvia not situated by the sea. A small community of fishermen still lives there, preserving their fishing traditions, craftsmanship skills, and distinctive way of life. In the program, viewers will learn about Īdenis’s historical and cultural heritage, attend the traditional Fishermen's Festival in Nagļi, meet participants and see activities, and join local fisherman Roberts for a fishing trip on Lake Lubāns, experiencing daily work and generational fishing skills. Viewers will also meet local residents who work daily to preserve and promote fishing traditions. Special attention will be paid to how ancient traditions successfully continue today, becoming an important part of tourism and community cohesion.

The program features Anna Macāne, a resident and tradition keeper of Īdenis, who together with her husband Jānis Macāns has made the fishing village a popular destination for both Latvian residents and international visitors over many years. Stories will be revealed about the village's history, the importance of Lake Lubāns in local life, and the fishing traditions nurtured for generations.

The first episode of the cycle will air on TV24 on July 25 at 4:00 PM, and on July 26 at 10:30 AM and 8:30 PM. The programs will also be available on LRT's website, as well as on Facebook, YouTube, and the platform xtv.lv.
