Antra Skutele is the new board member of the Latgale Embassy "Gors". The decision was taken at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting of SIA "Austrumlatvijas koncertzāle" on Wednesday, 7 October. NRA reports this, citing the portal "lsm.lv".

After Diāna Zirniņa was dismissed from the post, the concert hall had so far been run by composer and musicologist Ilona Rupaine. With Skutele's appointment to the board, the venue now has a new head.

Draft law on the hall's governance

As previously reported in February, the Ministry of Culture had prepared a draft law on the governance of the concert hall. At that time the document was being sent for inter-institutional coordination.

The aim of the draft law is to ensure that the Latgale Embassy "Gors", a cultural centre of national, regional and municipal significance, is managed efficiently, sustainably and democratically. It is also meant to guarantee the continuity of its operations.

Alongside this, the regulation is intended to help achieve the goals of national and regional cultural policy, strengthen social cohesion and build a unified information space. The strengthening of the public's sense of belonging to the Latvian state is also named as an objective.

The source does not give further details on the duties of the new board member or on the next steps for the draft law. For now, the only clear facts are that the concert hall has a new leader and that a governance framework has been prepared.
