On Saturday, September 19, the village of Upīte in Balvi municipality will once again welcome people drawn together by poetry, music, art and the Latgalian language. This year the love poetry and song festival 'Upītes Uobeļduorzs' marks a special milestone — its 25th edition.

A quarter-century tradition

According to organizers, for a full quarter century, every third Saturday of September has turned Upīte into a gathering place where generations meet and where the Latgalian language is heard throughout the day. Since its founding, the festival has grown into one of the key events supporting Latgalian culture and language, drawing both local residents and those for whom Upīte and the Latgalian cultural space hold personal significance.

Anniversary celebration

This year's event will carry a special festive atmosphere as the festival celebrates 25 years of existence. Its long history shows that the gathering has become a firm tradition in Latgalian cultural life, bringing together lovers of poetry, music and art anew each year.
