Latvians share funny stories about chance encounters with celebrities
On the social platform “Threads,” people have been sharing amusing and awkward stories about unexpected encounters with well-known Latvians. Among them is an account of a man who, unaware that Intars Busulis was performing, publicly told him to be quiet.
A “Threads” user named Elīna invited people to share memories of surprising and funny encounters with public figures known in Latvia. The call sparked a wide response, with numerous stories appearing in the comments.
One user recalled an event at the “Stockmann” store, where singer Intars Busulis was performing. Not knowing who was singing and unable to hear a shop assistant, the man loudly asked for “that goat at the microphone” to be quiet — a remark that rang out right during the quietest part of the song. Both the musician and the man reportedly felt embarrassed afterward.
Other memories
Gabriela recalled a childhood moment at the “Rīga 800” celebration, when, during a folk dance performance, it was her turn to greet then-President Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga. Instead, young Gabriela ran away screaming for the “bad lady” to leave.
Baiba described an incident at a post office, where staff refused to hand musician Ainars Mielavs his parcel because he lacked identification.
Sarmīte remembered meeting “Prāta vētra” band members Renārs Kaupers and Kaspars Roga at a store, while the band was recording songs at a studio in Sigulda; the two were queuing to buy hockey gear.
Another user described how members of the band “Kreisais krasts” unexpectedly showed up at her workplace to film a music video, while a woman who once worked at a bar in Old Riga recalled an evening with singer Uldis Marhilēvičs and Linda Stafecka, when the two artists, in high spirits, danced and fell over.
